Ok, so who are we?
SEALIFE Melbourne Aquarium is one of Australia’s largest and leading aquariums AND one of best in the world (yes, we may be biased). We are centrally located and have a wonderfully diverse and inclusive work environment with plenty of great staff benefits. 

We are run by an amazing company called Merlin Entertainments. Merlin Entertainments is the company behind iconic brands like SEA LIFE, Madame Tussauds, LEGOLAND, and Peppa Pig World of Play. We operate in over 130 attractions across 25 countries, delivering memorable experiences to 54 million+ visitors a year. In Australia and New Zealand, we have 10 attractions, including SEA LIFE, Wild Life, Madame Tussauds, and the Fly Treetop Adventures, amongst others.

So what is this role all about?
Great question. 
Reporting in to the General Manager (of our Melbourne Cluster), you would be responsible for the Curatorial/Displays team at the Aquarium including the areas of Displays, Birds and Diving whilst managing a large team of supervisors, senior aquarists and aquarists. 

Here are just a few of things that you should expect to be doing on the daily:

  • Lead the Curatorial team to deliver world-class aquatic and terrestrial displays
  • Work with key team members to ensure the site’s animal care protocols and programs and all new display design specifications meet or exceed standards
  • Drive team engagement, development and performance
  • Build a fun culture of knowledge sharing and expertise
  • Ensure effective use and maintenance of the LSS on sites
  • Drive rescue, breeding, conservation and research initiatives
  • Ensure that all diving operations on site are managed and undertaken safely
  • Work as an integral part of the senior leadership team to deliver attraction vision, business and capital plans
  • Coordinate the health, safety and security matters of department


And how about you? 
To shine in this role, you will have strong operation management and communication skills and experience in a similar environment. A passion for working with animals and in the tourism/attraction industry is crucial.

  • A degree in related field with proven experience in leading a team 
  • A strong leadership background in people and performance management
  •  A track record of maintaining high animal welfare standards
  •  An understanding of life support systems, plant and equipment
  •  An understanding of specialist aquarium diving activities
  •  A detailed understanding of workplace health and safety principles, specifically pertaining to the environment in which we work.
