Duty Manager

SEA LIFE Trust Gweek, The Cornish Seal Sanctuary
United Kingdom

Fancy a job like no other? Here at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary our vision is of a world where our oceans are healthy, protected, and full of diverse life.

Prepare for a world of rescued and rehabilitated seals and other marine animals in need of help from around the Cornish coastline. We educate and encourage generations to protect our seas and marine life, now and for the future.

Right now we’re on the look-out for a Duty Manager (seasonal) to be at the heart of our daily operation and make sure that every day runs efficiently and our guests have an amazing experience.

About the role

This is a lively, hands-on operational role, where your day will start by walking the attraction making sure everything's clean, safe, presentable and just as it should be ready for opening. Leading daily team briefs, you'll gear the teams up for the day, passing on all the need-to-know information to equip them for success.

You'll spend the day out in the attraction interacting with our guests, always being one step ahead, anticipating operational problems and putting solutions in place before they impact the visitor experience. You'll be quick to react too if things don't quite go to plan, as you'll own the problem and put it right to recover the magic.

Safety is at the top our list, so you'll always be on the look out and take the decisions necessary to protect our team members, our guests and our creatures. This also includes taking the lead in emergency situations such as fire evacuations. You'll also play a key role in our onsite cash management ensuring all processes and protocols are followed.

This role will offer a minimum of 5 hours per week until November 2022. Weekends and holiday periods are our busiest times and so shifts will include these periods on a roster basis.

About you

You're sure to make an impact here if you,

  • - Already have bags of experience working in customer facing environments that put the customer experience at the heart of everything.
  • - Are able to demonstrate how your customer service skills are second to none and that you're engaging when it comes to interacting with people of all ages.
  • - Are friendly, upbeat and exuding passion, you'll make a positive impression on our guests but also our operational teams.
  • - Can thrive in a lively, 'every-day is-different' environment and love getting hands-on and not be phased by balancing many priorities at once.
  • - Can think on your feet, problem solve and be decisive. You can take the lead when the pressure's on and see problems as challenges that you’re proactive in finding new ways to find a solution for.

You'll also be brimming with ideas to make our guest experience even better and be able to show us how you've done that in the past.
