SEA LIFE Gweek, The Cornish Seal Sanctuary
Gweek, CORNWALL, TR12 6UG
The SEA LIFE Trust is a registered charity working globally to protect the world’s oceans and the amazing marine life that lives within them. Our vision is of a world where our oceans are healthy, properly protected, and full of diverse life.
Here at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, which has been at its current site since 1975, we drive excellence in our overall visitor experience and ensure every guest has an amazing day with us. We’re also lucky enough to be situated on the banks of the Helford River in Cornwall.
Right now, we have a fantastic opportunity for a confident and enthusiastic Entertainments & Education Supervisor, to assist with the management and coordination of our passionate and friendly team.
About the role
This exciting role is to represent the educational voice of the Cornish Seal Sanctuary through our curriculum-linked education packages. Doing this with our year-round events programme both onsite and offsite and through our exciting new education volunteers, driving a high-quality experience for our guests by inspiring and educating whilst making it fun and entertaining. You will assist with performance management of the team and enforce Health & Safety policies, procedures, cleaning standards and assist with internal audits.
You will create, implement, and lead the education volunteer programme, therefore, experience leading a volunteer team would be hugely beneficial. You will liaise with external organisations, schools, and education groups to upsell our education packages and you will work with the Entertainments Team Leader to manage our yearly calendar of onsite events.
This role is a permanent, full time role and given the 7 day nature of the visitor attraction, there will be regular weekend and bank holiday working on a roster basis, so you’ll need to be flexible with regards to working days and hours.
Make no mistake this is a hands-on and busy role, so you’ll demonstrate that you’ve got the grit and the stamina to work in a busy, ‘every-day-is-different’ environment. You’ll be a proven leader, that’s managed and lead operational teams and show us how you can inspire and encourage others to deliver great results.
You will have excellent communication skills, high levels of energy and the ability to remain calm under pressure. You’ll have a passion for biodiversity, marine sustainability and can work to your own initiative, to set goals and timescales and have a keen eye for detail and strong leadership skills. Finally, you will be results-focused, confident at talking to our families, and be able to solve problems whilst keeping your 'cool' on a hot day.
Why join us?
When you join us, you’ll receive a salary of £18,156 per annum and whilst you will be employed by The SEA LIFE Trust and not Merlin Entertainments directly, you’ll still get your flippers on a Merlin Magic Pass - giving you free tickets to Merlin’s attractions across the GLOBE!
In order to comply with government guidelines, should you be successful in your application all interviews will be via telephone or video call. If requested to attend the sanctuary, we have hygiene and safety measures in place, and you will be asked to adhere to these.
These will include but not be limited to; social distancing, non-invasive temperature checks, face masks and the use of hand sanitisers.
Merlin provides HR services for the SEA LIFE Trust and as part of this, all SEA LIFE Trust employees adhere to all Merlin Entertainments policies. Please be aware that you may receive correspondence from Merlin Entertainments regarding SEA LIFE Trust vacancies.
